Mr. Iziraren brings to the position more 20 years of experience with the Moroccan diplomatic service, including 8 years at the Permanent Mission of Morocco to the United Nations in New York. He has extensive knowledge of United Nations processes and political dynamics.
Mr. Iziraren most recently served as Head of the Economic and Sustainable Development Section at the Permanent Mission of Morocco in New York.
Mr. Iziraren served as Vice-President of the Executive Board of the United Nations Development Programme, the United Nations Population Fund and the United Nations Office for Project Services (2012); and Vice-Chair of the Second Committee of the 69th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. He participated in negotiations of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Addis Ababa Action Agenda on Financing for Development, on behalf of Morocco. He was also member of the African Group Team of negotiators for Agenda 2030. He was a member of the Moroccan delegation to the Security Council (2012, 2013).
Mr. Iziraren has a deep understanding of Agenda 2030, including the importance of South-South cooperation as a key modality for its implementation. He has led negotiations as facilitator of more than 20 General Assembly resolutions and decisions of the UNDP/UNFPA/UNOPS Executive Board on international trade and development. These resolutions include those on South-South cooperation, UNDP’s Strategic Plan for 2014-2017, the New Partnership for Africa’s Development or the Third Industrial Development Decade for Africa 2016-2025, among others.
Mr. Iziraren’s previous posts include: Head of the World Trade Organization, Head of the Multilateral Trade Organization Service, and Head of the United Nations Regional Cooperation Service at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Morocco; and Economic Counselor at the Embassy of Morocco in Tokyo, Japan.
Mr. Iziraren holds a PHD in international relations, and an advanced diploma from the National School of Administration of Morocco.
