On 25 April 2018 Mr. Jorge Chediek, Envoy of the Secretary-General on South-South Cooperation and Director, UNOSSC, signed an interagency agreement with Mr. Ramiz Alakbarov, Director, Programme Division, UNFPA.

Under this agreement, UNFPA is making available a $90,000 financial contribution to support the implementation of the “Youth4South (Y4S): Advanced Youth Leadership Programme” and the development of a reproductive health focus area under Y4S.

The Y4S Programme was launched by UNOSSC during the Global South-South Development Expo 2017 in Antalya Turkey, in partnership with the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth, UNFPA, IFAD, the Finance Center for South-South Cooperation, the Islamic Conference Youth Forum, and FK Norway. It aims at developing capacities of established young leaders in utilizing South-South and triangular cooperation tools and methods to scale up development solutions in their home countries and communities.

UNFPA is the second United Nations agency partnering in the Y4S programme after IFAD. This partnership shows a great example of the collaborative efforts of United Nations system in advancing the youth agenda for achieving the and SDGs through South-South and triangular cooperation.

Through this programme, UNOSSC, other institutional partners, and most importantly, participating young leaders from national governments and respective sectors will gain a better understanding of the vision and work of UNFPA in promoting South-South solutions in the field of reproductive health.
