Envoy of SG on SSC and Director of UNOSSC, Mr Jorge Chediek, visited the China Africa Development Fund headquarters in Beijing on 29 May 2018. Mr. Shi Jiyang, Vice Chairman of the Board and President of CADF, together with members of the CADF senior management, received the UNOSSC delegation.

Mr. Chediek acknowledged CADF as the leading Africa-focused equity investment fund launched by the Chinese government to support China-Africa cooperation. He welcomed CADF’s proposal to sign an MOU during the China-Africa Cooperation Forum(FOCAC)which will be held in Beijing in Sept.

Mr. Shi introduced CADF, an Africa-focused equity investment fund, launched by the Chinese government to support China-Africa cooperation, with a total capital of US$10 billion. With the aim to enhance China-Africa economic cooperation and promote Africa’s development, CADF serves as a bridge to promote cooperation between Chinese and African enterprises through direct investment.

CADF has invested in agriculture, infrastructure, manufacturing, industrial park, resource development, etc. It supports Chinese firms to invest in Africa and seeks Chinese partners for African projects. Firms meeting the requirements could apply.

The two sides exchanged information and proposed to:

1) Collaborate on SSC for poverty alleviation in Africa and globally;
2) Conduct joint research to document case studies on industrial parks, and share good practices in South-South investment;
3) offer expertise of both sides to support youth leadership training particularly on SSC in agriculture, infrastructure development, renewable energy, green economy and etc; and
4) jointly support and implement projects in areas of mutual interests.
