The Alliance of NGOs and CSOs for South-South Cooperation (ASSC) hosted an event on the sidelines of the Second High-level United Nations Conference on South-South Cooperation (BAPA+40) which sought to celebrate the work that has been achieved through NGOs and CSOs in nations of the Global South during the past 40 years and how the Alliance envisions future developments towards achieving the SDGs.
The event, held at the Faculty of Law of the University of Buenos Aires, highlighted the role of NGOs and CSOs in developing synergies and cooperation towards sustainable development of the Southern nations. Mehdi Mirafzal, Senior Advisor to the United Nations’ Office for South-South Cooperation (UNOSSC), launched the South-South in Action Series publication by Global One 2015, the coordinating organisation for the Alliance of NGOs and CSOs for South-South Cooperation.
A panel of speakers from the different regions of the South offered their perspectives on how the world has changed in the past 40 years and what challenges they anticipate for the future for South-South cooperation. A photo exhibition was also held which highlighted NGOs’ achievements in the Global South and recognized the diversity of skills, initiatives and the sharing of technology and creative ideas within the South.
