China/UNOSSC contribution agreement

Ministry of Commerce of China and UNOSSC signed contribution agreement of USD300,000 to the UNOSSC for programmatic support under the Umbrella of China’s contribution to South-South and Trilateral Cooperation

On the sidelines of the 2nd Belt and Road Forum in Beijing, Mr. Jorge Chediek, UNOSSC Director and Envoy of SG on SSC, and Ms. Xiaojun Grace Wang, Deputy Director of UNOSSC, met with Mr. Zhang Shaogang, Director-General of Department of International Trade and Economic Affairs of the Ministry of Commerce, together with Ms. Liang Hong, Deputy DG, and Mr. Wang Dazhong.

 

Mr. Chediek commended China’s leadership in advancing South-South Cooperation globally and MOFCOM’s partnership and continued support to UNOSSC, and its successful coordination at the BAPA+40 process. At the BAPA+40 conference, H.E. Mr. Hu Chunhua, Vice Premier of China, witnessed the signing of the cooperation agreement of the Global South-South Development Center between UNOSSC and MOFCOM. Mr. Chediek also elaborated on the progress made by the SSTC Silk Road Cities Project in line with the Belt and Road Initiative priority areas.

 

Mr. Zhang from MOFCOM emphasized the importance of poverty eradication and expressed willingness to increase its funding towards South-South Cooperation. MOFCOM invited UNOSSC to participate in its several international forums on South-South Cooperation and called for more systematic support from the UN to Chinese staffs and young talents.

At the end of the meeting, UNOSSC and MOFCOM signed the contribution agreement of USD 300,000 to UNOSSC for programmatic support under the Umbrella of China contribution to UNDP/UNOSSC for South-South and Trilateral Cooperation.
