Mr. Jorge Chediek, Director of UNOSSC and Envoy of SG on SSC, and Ms. Xiaojun Grace Wang met with the Vice Chairman of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA) Mr. Zhang Maoyu at the CIDCA HQ in Beijing on 25th April. Both sides introduced their mandates and work progress respectively and identified key areas of cooperation, including fund management and capacity building for development countries.
Mr. Chediek commended China for its commitment in advancing SSTrC agenda globally, particularly for its leadership demonstrated during the BAPA+40 process. He also congratulated CIDCA for the successful operation in the past 2 years and the implementation of South-South Cooperation Assistance Fund.
UNOSSC has a unique position at the UN system to coordinate efforts of UN system support to SSC. We coordinate the UN system-wide SSC strategy and the coordination mechanism. UNOSSC is also implementing 4 SSC trust funds, namely UNFSSC, PGTF, IBSA and India-UN, the last one has $150 Million pledge from India. UNOSSC
During the meeting, both sides are keen to collaborate on knowledge and advocacy and envision to collaborate on exchanging Trust Fund management experience guided by South-South cooperation principles and providing more opportunities for government and entities of developing countries to exchange experience and develop capacities in SSC.
